Brewery tap revisited

Is number 1 still the best ale in the rack? Cafevelo's trio of beer buffs returned to Derby's Brewery Tap to find out...

Number 4 pleased one of the judges with its coffee and peat notes, but...

there's no change at the top. It's back-to-back wins for number 1.

Phew.

Clevedon cake stop

In front, date & walnut, and behind, apple. Very nice. Can't say the same about the weather though. Never known it to be so windy (check out the flag).

Working out the work out - part 1

Take one temperature sensor -

Clip it to your turbo trainer's cooling fin. Pictured, a Phonak-tastic CycleOps Fluid2. Notice how the sophisticated clamping device has been fashioned to resemble a clothes peg - genius.

and measure -

(A) background temperature, (B) warm up (literally!) and (C) first interval session.

The serial buffer maxed out after 250 data-points, but the initial results are promising. Cafevelo reckons that the jewels are buried in the area under the curve.

Any thoughts readers?

British time trial championships 2009 - part 1

Tractors, hay lorries, bonfires and bemused motorists can only mean one thing - the British time trial championships. Closed roads would have been a dream, but British Cycling made the best out of a bad situation and sent vehicles around the circuit to protect the country's finest pedal pushers from the hustle and bustle of village life.

Borrowed camera in hand, cafevelo managed to snap the top riders in action.

Wendy Houvenaghel (Science in Sport)

Emma Pooley (Cervelo)

Chris Newton (Rapha Condor)

Check back on Monday for exclusive photos of Rob Hayles, Michael Hutchinson and Bradley Wiggins.
